This seems like good advice for anyone who doesn’t like the scientific explanations given on the show.

I disagree. “It isn’t supposed to be hard SF” is a good reason for not explaining how stuff works, but it’s no excuse for bad technobabble. Not explaining stuff allows you to wonder, to dream up explanations on your own, but bad technobabble pulls you out of the story and just makes you point at the screen and shout “WRONG!”
Doctor Who is generally very good about this, unlike some other SF tv shows out there.
I … kind of agree and kind of don’t. The fact that Doctor Who takes placein spacerequires that it address science. And I don’t demand that the science always make real scientific sense, because I fully believe that even our world’s top scientists are leagues behind scientific truth and thus a bit of what sounds like technobabble to us could actually be the case, but I do demand that, if much rests on it, the technobabble at least make a sort of sense.
To clarify: whatever explanation they come up with in the beginning of an episode for why they can’t just use the TARDIS to fix everything, I’m fine with. I can accept that all they’re really saying is “Do you want an episode or don’t you?” But in Angels Take Manhattan or Girl in the Fireplace, for example (first two to pop to mind), the technobabble behind not using the TARDIS to go to New York or Versailles did draw me out of the episode. Because in both cases that is the obvious solution, and with so much riding on it, you’d better have a damn good explanation for why it’s not viable.
